WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
Te Ropu Awhina, located in 41 locations throughout Aotearoa New Zealand , is a charitable foundation dedicated to helping those in need. With the dedication of our tūao (volunteers), and kaimahi (staff), we strive to improve the lives iwi and whānau who who need help within the community.
Family Food Box - Every year, thousands of Kiwi families and iwi are struggling to make ends meet with continual rising costs of housing, schooling and everyday food necessities. Sadly, this often results in family violence and situations where police become involved.
The Food Box is an alternative way that Te Ropu Awhina can help bring in relief to families in need. Often situations arise due to a lack of money in the household to provide food for the children.
Our ope have chosen a selection of nutritious and healthy everyday food items to provide enough food to feed vulnerable family for 1-2 days.
We believe this is one way to show genuine kindness and help to iwi in times of desperate need.

WHERE WE HELP
Working with iwi in crisis is at the heart of what we do.
After wanting to do more for whanau and iwi affected by domestic violence, we designed the Food Box to act an emergency food bank for those in need. The Food Box contains a variety of non-perishable, long-life food.
Our hearts and thoughts go out to those effected by the current COVID-19 crisis. As a result of the global pandemic, food poverty in Aotearoa New Zealand is increasing. Elderly and disabled iwi are unable to access the essential kai they need. Unemployment is increasing as a result of the current economic situation, and more and more children are having to go without the basics of day to day life. Volunteers and staff at Te Ropu Awhina are showing their support by providing Family Food Boxes to those in our community effected by COVID-19 and vulnerable iwi who are unable to access the food they need.
Note: All volunteers and staff are strictly adhering to government regulations including social distancing and use of PPE while preparing food boxes. The Rapid Relief Team is registered as an approved essential service provider.

A resident of Ocean Shores Village would like to say "THANK YOU" for the most generous box of groceries she received last week. She in turn gave some items to her neighbours. Thank you to THE TEAM.

Upon opening the food box, I was so overwhelmed. This meant I could actually feed my children and not have to stretch our food until next pay day.
One of our team took a food box to a house and provided breakfast for the hungry kids! It was such a good feeling to help provide for these children and it also enabled time for support services to engage with the family in order to guide them back to financial independence.

Being the #1 fan of food boxes, I just wanted to say a massive thanks on behalf of our team for the fantastic mahi involved in producing these essential products. The numerous times one of my colleagues have gone to whanau and identified no food in the cupboards is a god send to know that we have access to food boxes. Thank you - many times over.
